Drawing Flowers With Pencil
Has anyone tried Holbein and Golden Acrylic Colors?
Have you tried Golden Heavy Body Artist Acrylic and/or Holbein Acryla Artist Acrylic Colors?
Are they both good?
I’ve been looking at Holbein and Golden acrylics colors on dickblick.com and these are the ones I want to try first.
Which one will be easier for me?
I am already an artist, but I never knew how to paint well with colors. I only draw using 2b pencils and adding shadows to my arts. I draw anime and cartoons more, but I also love to draw animals, flowers and etc.
So, if you are an artist and have tried these brands, which one will be more easier for me and why? I don’t mind the price since I don’t want to paint on big canvas yet.

Golden colors are great — very pure, true, full of pigment, nice body (I use the medium body paints). I also really like Golden’s mediums, like GAC 100. I haven’t used Holbein.
But if you are just learning painting you can start with generic brand paints (Utrecht makes good, affordable, student quality paints). I recommend this because you should buy a lot of colors (not just one blue, but ultramarine blue and phthlalo blue, for example, not just one brown but a dark umber, a yellow ochre and a red sienna). Different paints have different properties in temperature and opacity.
Also, rather than getting pricey paints and painting small, get the Blick student grade paints, and paint big on different materials (gessoed wood, canvas, gessoed paper, canvas paper) because you have to experiment and don’t worry about wasting materials. Painting, especially with acrylics, is usually supposed to use a lot more of your arm and body than drawing with a 2B pencil. And besides, I think it’s easier to learn how to handle acrylic painting on bigger surfaces.
You’ll also want to experiment with different kinds of brushes and mediums, so those are two more reasons not to blow your wad on paints.
